INTERFERENCE ALLEGATIONS: WE DON’T HAVE TIME FOR ANOTHER COMMISSION

We do not have the luxury of time for another drawn-out commission of inquiry. People are dying while justice is being delayed and possibly denied. The explosive allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal’s Provincial Police Commissioner demand immediate and independent investigation by senior officials within the SAPS and NPA. The Commissioner must be protected as a whistleblower.
According to the allegations, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu unilaterally disbanded the Political Killings Task Team and redirected 121 active investigation dockets to the office of National Deputy Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sibiya, where they have allegedly been neutralised. If true, this amounts to political interference of the highest order and a deliberate sabotage of our criminal justice system at its most crucial stage – investigation.

THEEWATERSKLOOF MPAC: PUBLIC TRANSPARENCY IN ACTION

The GOOD Party welcomes and applauds the leadership of Theewaterskloof Municipality for its proactive commitment to transparency and community inclusion through its Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC). The Speaker of Council, GOOD Councillor Weldon Wells, has reaffirmed that MPAC meetings will be open to the public, and that notices of these important oversight sessions will be actively communicated to all residents.  This is a commendable step in strengthening accountability and building trust between the municipality and the people it serves. In a political climate where far too many municipalities shield executive actions from public scrutiny, Theewaterskloof is setting the right example.

ONE YEAR INTO THE GNU: TIME TO DELIVER ON THE PROMISE

Today marks one year since the Government of National Unity was formed, a bold and necessary step towards restoring stability and collaboration in a fractured political landscape. For the first time, the official opposition, most notably the DA, has found itself not across the aisle, but at the table. This has placed them in uncharted waters, balancing critique with cooperation. It is a tightrope that GOOD has walked before. When our leader, Patricia de Lille, entered Cabinet in 2019.

NATIONAL DIALOGUE LONG OVERDUE

President Ramaphosa’s announcement of a National Convention on 15 August to launch a National Dialogue is a long-overdue step toward renewing South Africa’s social contract. Nearly a year has passed since political parties signed the Statement of Intent of the Government of National Unity (GNU), which explicitly committed to convening a National Dialogue to tackle the country’s deep and urgent challenges. That commitment was made in good faith and in recognition of the need for collective action in the face of crisis. The delay in giving effect to this promise has been frustrating, but the time for talking has finally arrived, and it must now be time for action too.

DA SPOKESPERSON CONFIRMS: ISRAEL TRIP VIOLATED PARTY POLICY

The DA has acknowledged that its MPs who travelled to Israel to whitewash the genocidal actions of the Israeli Defense Force should be disciplined. During a Democracy Unplugged podcast hosted by Podcast Party SA last night, Democratic Alliance National Spokesperson Karabo Khakhau made a startling, and important, claim: the DA did not approve the recent trip to Israel by its MPs, and, in her words, “you can’t go there and pretend you’re not an MP.” Khakhau went further, acknowledging that the DA should take disciplinary action against the parliamentarians who joined the controversial delegation.

BUDGET 2025: PLUGS GAPS; DEFERS REAL BUDGETARY REFORMS TO NEXT YEAR

The third iteration of Budget 2025 delivered by Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana today largely succeeds in absorbing a R69 Billion fiscal gap occasioned by dropping the proposed 0.5% VAT increase without defunding improved social and infrastructure spend altogether. To some extent it’s a holding budget to settle months of instability since the first version of the budget was rejected in March. The real work lies ahead, in eliminating waste and reforming the budget-making process.

RAMAPHOSA IN WASHINGTON: TIME FOR DIPLOMACY OVER DISINFORMATION

On Wednesday, President Ramaphosa will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington, D.C. This visit presents an important opportunity to reset the strategic relationship between South Africa and the United States. At a time of heightened geopolitical and economic turbulence, it is vital that official relations be underpinned by mutual respect, open dialogue, and the facts.

BUDGET 3.0: FIX THE PROCESS, NOT JUST THE NUMBERS

As Minister Enoch Godongwana prepares to table the third version of the Budget, in as many months, it is time to acknowledge that the problem is no longer just about what’s in or out of the budget. The deeper issue is how the budget is built in the first place. The process has been chaotic and exclusionary, exposing how ill-suited the current budget-making framework is for a Government of National Unity (GNU). We urgently need new, inclusive protocols and decision-making structures fit for a coalition era. A GNU requires coordination, consultation, and compromise – not ambushes and ultimatums.

CAPE FLATS RESIDENTS MEET ALL CRITERIA FOR U.S. REFUGEE STATUS BESIDES SKIN COLOUR

On the basis of their home language, historic expropriation of land without compensation, and exposure to the most extreme levels of violence in South Africa, many residents of the gang-ravaged Cape Flats should qualify for consideration by the US as potential refugees. The only reason they do not is colour.

FAKE REFUGEES: IMPOSE SPECIAL WEALTH TAX ON THE SALES OF THEIR FIXED PROPERTY

The first group of “Afrikaner refugees” are expected to land in the United States next week, the New York Times reported today. They are being granted refugee status on the basis of a web of right-wing lies that South Africa is grabbing land owned by Whites and conducting a genocide against Afrikaners. These lies have had a profoundly detrimental effect on South Africa’s relationship with the US.
