STARVATION IN GAZA: “FACT-FINDING” MPS MUST ANSWER FOR THEIR SILENCE

As images of starving children emerge from Gaza and the International Court of Justice continues to weigh evidence of genocide, the GOOD Party calls on the Members of Parliament who travelled to Israel in April under the guise of a “fact-finding” mission to answer one simple question: Do you still stand by your assessment that Israel is a paragon of human rights?

FORMER PRESIDENT’S TRC CASE INTERVENTION: IF INNOCENT OF POLITICAL MEDDLING, IS THABO MBEKI GUILTY OF DERELICTION OF DUTIES?

Whether or not former President Thabo Mbeki succeeds in his application to join the case brought by victims of apartheid against government, being argued in the Gauteng High Court today, the former President has a duty to explain the State’s disinterest or inability to prosecute apartheid-era cases recommended for prosecution by the TRC. Rather than applying to join the litigation as a party, so he can appeal the outcome as he deems necessary, if Mbeki has nothing to worry about, he should have applied to join the case as a friend of the court.

IT’S GOING TO BE COSTLY BUT SA MUST STAND UP TO BULLIES IN WASHINGTON

The set of values under-pinning South Africa’s commitments to achieving post-apartheid socio-economic redress, its membership of the BRICS power block, and its opposition to Israeli barbarism in Palestine will outlast US President Donald Trump. The United States Congress’ greenlighting of the US-South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act of 2025 today has some way to go before landing on President Trump’s desk.

GOOD PARTY COUNCILLORS BUST FRAUDULENT SCHEME REGISTERING 18-YEAR-OLDS FOR SRD GRANTS

The GOOD Party has asked SASSA and the Hawks to shut down a fraudulent scheme in which hundreds of Worcester and Rawsonville residents, mostly18-year-olds, are being registered for the R370 a month poverty grant without their knowledge or receiving any money. If the fraud is being committed from within SASSA, as believed, there is no reason to believe it is limited to the Breede Valley area.

CAPE TOWN’S BUDGET ISN’T PRO-POOR – IT’S POLITICALLY CONVENIENT AND FINANCIALLY PUNITIVE

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis’s attempt to paint critics of the City’s 2025/26 budget as enemies of the poor is disingenuous and misleading. His attack on the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) for challenging the legality of linking fixed tariffs to property values is nothing more than political deflection from a deeply flawed budgeting approach.

GOOD WELCOMES THE BOGOTÁ AGREEMENT AS A TURNING POINT FOR INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE

The GOOD Party welcomes the landmark outcomes of the Emergency Ministerial Conference of The Hague Group, jointly convened by South Africa and Colombia in Bogotá. RAMAPHOSA MUST UPDATE NATION ON WASHINGTON STRATEGY

President Cyril Ramaphosa owes the nation an update on progress. if any, with the nation’s diplomatic relationship with the US.

If the President has retained Mcebisi Jonas as his Special Envoy to North America despite knowing for months that the US government had denied him a diplomatic visa, as alleged by the DA, it does not augur well for South Africa’s hopes to dissuade Washington from imposing a minimum 30% trade tariff from next month.

MR PRESIDENT, WE DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR ANOTHER COSTLY COMMISSION

The President has now announced a judicial commission of inquiry, to be led by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, with terms stretching over three to six months for initial and interim reports.
This is not good enough.
The appointment of a commission, while well-intentioned, is too slow, too cumbersome, and too costly. We have walked this road before, most notably with the Zondo Commission and we have seen that a commission of inquiry cannot replace a criminal investigation.

FOUR DEAD IN BISHOP LAVIS: BUSINESS AS USUAL

The Cape Flats was rocked by yet another mass murder on Friday night. Four adults were gunned down inside a home in Bishop Lavis. By Saturday morning, life had moved on. No heightened police presence. No wall-to-wall media coverage. No outrage. In the Cape Flats, violence has become so normalised that mass murder is met with a collective shrug from government and society alike.

SENTENCING OF APARTHEID KILLER COP WELCOMED

The GOOD Party welcomes the Gauteng High Court’s sentencing of apartheid-era policeman Johan Marais to 15 years imprisonment for the 1987 murder of student activist Caiphus Nyoka. Marais pleaded guilty to the murder but declined to turn State Witness against three former colleagues who have pleaded not guilty of participating in Nyoka’s murder and are due for trial later this year.
