GOOD Statement by Brett Herron,
GOOD Secretary-General
13 August 2025
The GOOD Party notes the High Court’s instruction that the Executive Mayor of Tshwane be sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment, suspended for one year. This order stems from the City’s failure to comply with an October 2022 judgment directing specific work to be completed during the 2022/2023 financial year.
The Court’s 11 August finding confirms that the City is in contempt of court. During the period in question, Tshwane was governed by DA mayors Randall Williams and Cilliers Brink.
The judgment vindicates GOOD’s long-held concerns that the DA-led administrations of Tshwane were failing to perform. It was for this reason that GOOD supported a change of leadership in October 2024.
Since then, the City’s finances have stabilised, arrears to Eskom and Rand Water are being paid down, and a renewed focus on basic service delivery is producing tangible results – streetlights are being fixed, potholes repaired, and crime rates reduced.
GOOD remains committed to the multiparty coalition and the people of Tshwane.
