DA HYPOCRISY ON POLICING EXPOSED: LEAP HAS COST BILLIONS AND FAILED TO DELIVER

It is disingenuous and pure political point-scoring for the Democratic Alliance to jump on the crime-warden bandwagon in Gauteng. The DA’s own Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) in the Western Cape has cost taxpayers more than R4 billion and failed to show tangible results in reducing crime. Yet, the DA now seeks to claim the moral high ground in Gauteng while ignoring the failure of its own policing vanity project. Both Gauteng’s Crime Prevention Wardens (CPW/Amapanyaza) and the Western Cape’s LEAP officers exist in the same legal grey zone. Neither province has the authority to establish parallel policing structures. GOOD has been consistent that these unregulated, politically driven initiatives are illegal, ineffective, and unsustainable.

ANTI-BBBEE BILL: ANOTHER PIECE IN DA STRATEGY TO USE ANC WEAKNESSES TO SUBVERT PRINCIPLES OF TRANSFORMATION

The fact that the ANC has grossly manipulated Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment policies to favour a small circle of its friends is disgraceful and wasteful, but that does not mean the national imperative to transform ownership of the economy should be abandoned. There have been some positive BBBEE initiatives, such as the transfer of company shares to employees, but these successes have been overwhelmed by a tide of state ineptitude and corruption.

BOOI WALKS, BUT QUESTIONS REMAIN

GOOD is deeply disappointed by the State’s decision to provisionally withdraw charges in the R1 billion tender fraud case involving former City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Member Malusi Booi, alleged 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield, his wife Nicole Johnson, and more than 20 others. The National Director of Public Prosecutions must explain why the National Prosecuting Authority appears ill-equipped or unprepared to pursue complex but crucial prosecutions involving politicians and public officials allegedly linked to organised crime. The residents of Cape Town deserve justice, not delays, deflections, or deals behind closed doors.

METRO CLEANING TARIFF: WHAT IS THE NATURE OF AFRIFORUM’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DA?

Afriforum hasn’t made a peep about drastic new cleaning tariffs contained in the City of Cape Town proposed budget, but it is threatening to take the City of Tshwane to court over a similar – much lower – cleaning tariff proposal. Why is Afriforum being so hypocritical? Because Cape Town is led by the DA, with which Afriforum is in a close relationship, while the DA in Tshwane is still licking its wounds after losing power in the capital city.

RUPERT SPOKE THE TRUTH: CRIME IN THE WESTERN CAPE CAN’T BE DENIED ANYMORE

“The crime is terrible Sir, but Mr. Steenhuisen won’t admit it. He runs the Western Cape, where I live, and the highest murder rate is in the Cape Flats.”  These were the words spoken last night by billionaire Johan Rupert during the Trump Ramaphosa media engagement. And while Rupert may not always be the voice of the South African people, this time, he gave voice to something millions already know – the crime crisis in the Western Cape is not only real, it’s worsening.

GEORGE BUILDING COLLAPSE: SILENCE, EVASION, AND THE STAGED SHOW OF ACCOUNTABILITY

The families of those who tragically lost their lives in the Victoria Street building collapse in George, nearly a year ago, would have been insulted, shocked, and deeply disappointed by today’s proceedings. The Western Cape Standing Committee on Infrastructure staged a hollow performance of oversight, feigning an investigation into the cause of the tragedy.
